The unique ratchet system tensions the cord or wire to clamp the PicturePlacer onto the frame.
Hold the frame with both hands to position it on the wall.
A push presses the small spike into the wall to mark the position of the bottom of the picture hook. Works best on softer plaster.
Click on the button to release the ratchet. Then align picture hook with mark on wall and secure with pin/s.

Picture Hook Positioner
Neat little picture hook or screw locating tool, which works in three stages:
First, clip the round peg under the cord or wire and push the ratchet plate firmly down to the top of the frame until it is clamped into place.
Next, with a Post-it handy, position the frame, with Locator in place, on the wall. Put the Post-it under the top of the Locator and make a pencil mark in the rounded top of the vertical slot.

Finally, remove the
Locator from the frame. Place back on wall with top of the slot on the mark. Then, if you wish, place a second Post-it below the little hole just above the peg. Make a mark through that hole and use it to position the bottom of a hook or the hole for a screw such as a Bear Claw screw, 9853, p.156
